Which Plan Is Right for Me?

You have a choice of two medical plan options administered by Aetna:

EPO (in-network only) or POS (in- and out-of-network services). Both plans offer comprehensive coverage and the same in-network benefits except for IVF, however there are a few differences. By answering the following questions, you'll learn about the key differences between the plans which can help you choose the one that most likely will meet your needs.

With both plans, you automatically receive prescription drug coverage through CVS Caremark and vision coverage through Aetna Vision Preferred.

Preventive services, like age-appropriate annual visits and immunizations, are covered at 100%, meaning you and your covered dependents pay nothing for these services.

Mental health services are offered under both medical plans.

Are you comfortable choosing and visiting providers that:

  • Are a part of Aetna's extensive network and/or
  • NYP physicians that see NYP Aetna members on an in-network basis? (NYP Select Physicians)

You will have higher payroll contributions for the POS plan for the flexibility to visit a provider outside of Aetna's network. If you go out-of-network for care under the POS plan, you must satisfy a deductible and pay coinsurance for services. You always save when you visit in-network providers.

Are you willing to pay more (both from your paycheck and when you see a provider) for a medical plan that provides coverage if you use an out-of-network provider (except for an emergency)?

Both EPO and POS plans offer basic and comprehensive infertility benefits, including intrauterine insemination (IUI). If you think you may need more advanced reproductive technology like in-vitro fertilization (IVF), consider enrolling in the POS plan. Visit the Infertility tab on the Aetna microsite for more information.

Do you need a medical plan that provides extensive fertility benefits including in-vitro-fertilization (IVF) and fertility preservation?

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Don't forget: You can put aside pre-tax dollars into a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to reimburse yourself for eligible out-of-pocket health care expenses, such as deductibles and copays. It's lose it or use it — so estimate carefully!
